Description

Cataglyphis livida (André, 1881)

Myrmecocystus albicans var. lividus André, 1881a, p. 58 (in text) (w.) Israel. Palaearctic.

Diagnosis

Worker. Uniform yellow; petiole with a flat dorsal surface sloping anteriorly; mesonotum sides, propodeum, and coxae covered with pale appressed pubescence; body shining.

Material examined. One site: 11.

Geographic range. The geographic distribution in the Palaearctic region is not clear due to the mislabelling of the type material of C. livida and C. viaticoides, which led to confusion (Salata et al. 2021). This species has a wide distribution on the Arabian Peninsula (Collingwood 1985; Collingwood and Agosti 1996; Collingwood et al. 2011). Its occurrence in Egypt, Israel, Syria, and Antalya Province in Turkey is also confirmed.

Ecology and biology. Nests were found next to Acacia gerrardii Benth in the Riyadh Province (KSA) with two population peaks during spring and June (Sharaf and Aldawood 2013).
