OBSOLETE WORDS IN THE AZERBAIJANI LANGUAGE

The obsolescence of lexical unit in the language is a complex process. The degree of their obsolescence is different, not the same. Obsolete words in the modern Azerbaijani language are of two types. a) Words that are obsolete only from the point of view of the modern literary language. Such words are not used in the literary language, but are used only in dialects. b) Words that are obsolete for the general language. These words were previously in the literary language, but are not used in the modern period either in the literary language or in dialects. Archaic words are formed as a result of the emergence of a new word expressing other concepts and its displacement of the previously used word. Nowadays, obsolete words are used in artistic and scientific works. These words are used for various purposes. In the work of a poet and writer, archaic words are used in order to give the color of the past era a real, vivid image when describing a certain historical period or historical event of past life. Obsolete words are also used to describe the typical characteristics of a person who lived at that time (clothing, weapons used, money, units of measurement, weight, etc.). Obsolete words cover various areas. Archaisms in the Azerbaijani language can be divided into several parts according to their origin: archaic words of Turkish origin, archaic words of Arabic and Persian origin, archaic words of Russian-European origin.
