Description

Presentation used at the rendez-vous de l'information scientifique organised by the University of Geneva Library on 14 November 2024 and devoted to ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier) identifiers and profiles.

Pitch: Would you like to list your publications, reviews and other scientific work? Do you have namesakes and want to ensure that your scientific contributions are correctly attributed to you? Do you want to remain contactable even if you change institution? During these workshops, which can be followed independently, you will be able to review the benefits of having an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor Identifier), and/or learn how to create one and set up the associated ORCID profile so that it reflects your activity as a researcher.

Previously divided into two parts (the basics - 15', then advanced settings - 1h), this new version takes 45 minutes and focuses on recommendations.

The objectives and content are as follows:

  • Understanding the principles and benefits of having an ORCID profile and knowing when and how to use it.
    • Why use an ORCID identifier? The benefits
    • How ORCID identifiers work in the scientific publication ecosystem
  • Have an up-to-date ORCID profile listing your scientific contributions, which can be updated as automatically as possible.
    • Set up the distribution of information
    • Add bibliographic references to your ORCID profile (manually, in batches, etc.)
    • Authorise automatic updating of your profile by trusted services (automatic addition of your new publications)
    • Link your ORCID iD to other identifiers
