ABSTRACT
This study reviews the literature on weight loss in overweight adults who follow an elimination diet. It contributes to the integration of studies in the literature on the evaluation of weight loss in overweight adults who follow an elimination diet. This study systematically examines and evaluates the effects of elimination diets on overweight individuals based on studies in the literature.
An elimination diet is a nutritional approach in which individuals eliminate certain foods from their diet and determine the negative effects of these foods on health. The basic principle of the diet is to remove potential allergenic or intolerant foods from the diet for a certain period of time and then add these foods back into the diet one by one to observe the body’s reactions. This review examines the existing studies in the literature and evaluates the effects of elimination diets on weight loss. It also assesses whether these diets are sustainable in the long term. Several studies show that elimination diets may be effective, especially in the management of certain food intolerances and allergies. However, there are conflicting results regarding the effects of these diets on weight loss. While some studies indicate that elimination diets may lead to short-term weight loss, more research is needed on the sustainability of these diets in the long term and their effects on permanent weight loss. It is clear that adapting elimination diets to individual health conditions is essential, and that these diets can be more effective and sustainable when implemented with professional guidance. It is also crucial to follow a balanced and varied diet plan to avoid nutritional deficiencies when following an elimination diet with the goal of weight loss.
