OEDP Response to the OGP and GSA RFI on the 6th U.S. Open Government National Action Plan

  • 1. Open Environmental Data Project

Description

From September to November 2024, the Office of Government-side Policy (OGP) and the General Services Administration (GSA) requested information to ‘gather diverse ideas and suggestions for the U.S. Open Government National Action Plan’. (See RFI here: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/09/12/2024-20702/seeking-public-input-for-the-6th-us-open-government-national-action-plan). Informed by our research, convenings, and collaborative pilots, the Open Environmental Data Project (OEDP) creates multi-sector strategies that strengthen the role of data and civic voice in environmental and climate governance. We see tremendous opportunity in the Open Government National Action Plan to advance more robust and equitable environmental strategies using open government principles, as well as to improve public participation in policymaking, by (i) making regulatory information not just open, but broadly more usable and (ii) creating processes to better integrate community data into environmental governance.
