Improving the FAIRness of metadata of data centers associated with KonsortSWD, especially enhancing the findability of datasets

Description

The FAIR Signposting Project for KonsortSWD aims to improve the FAIRness—specifically the findability—of metadata in research data centers associated with KonsortSWD. This project addresses the challenges of inconsistent FAIR assessments and low findability ratings by implementing FAIR Signposting, which uses standardized HTTP URIs to link key metadata elements, such as persistent identifiers and landing pages, in a machine-readable format.

The project’s primary deliverable is a framework with best practices to guide data centers in enhancing FAIR compliance, increasing metadata discoverability, and supporting reproducibility in research. Targeting Research Data Centers (RDCs) and researchers, the initiative provides a low-cost, scalable solution to make repositories more accessible and interoperable within the NFDI (National Research Data Infrastructure) ecosystem. Upcoming steps include the release of a Best Practice and Guidance Document to further support FAIR Signposting adoption across the consortia.
