Description

Starting from the crucial contributions to the subject by Philip Pouncey and, above all, Catherine Monbeig Goguel, the article reconsiders the draftsmanship of Antonio Cimatori, known as Il Visacci, an eccentric pupil of Federico Barocci in the Marche and Romagna between the late 16th and early 17th centuries. The attribution to Visacci of a group of sheets kept at the Albertina in Vienna constitutes the starting point for re-evaluating the originality of Visacci’s drawing work, influenced by Federico Barocci’s style but also open to other influences such as those of Federico Zuccari and Cavalier d’Arpino.
