Hybridoma Technology
Authors/Creators
Description
Hybridoma technology combines the unique qualities of antibody-producing B cells with immortalized myeloma cells, creating hybrid cells capable of endless proliferation while retaining the ability to produce specific antibodies.
The process begins with the immunization of a host animal, typically a mouse, followed by the fusion of its spleen cells - responsible for antibody production - with myeloma cells. This fusion generates hybridomas, which are screened to identify those that produce the desired antibody. The resulting monoclonal antibodies offer unmatched specificity and consistency, making them invaluable tools in diagnostics, therapeutics, and research.
