Evaluation of biofilm formation of aureobasidium pullulans strains for material-protective coating

Description

Aureobasidium pullulans is a black, non-pathogenic, yeast-like fungus that has been isolated from various environemnts, including wooden facades of buildings. This gave rise to the main idea of the ARCHI-SKIN project, which focuses on the developemnt of material coatings based on the biofilm formed by A. pullulans. Fungal coating is not only a more environementally friendly alternative to the coatings currently in use, but also has additional functions such as self-repair, UV-protection and antimicrobial properties. Fungus A. pullulns is the ideal candidate as it can form a biofilm, grows under various extreme conditions, and is known for its antimicrobial properties.
