Data Yesterday and Today: Comparing Dr. Louise Eisenhardt's "Black Book" of Data to Modern Data Management Practices

Description

In the spirit of looking back and looking ahead, this poster examines the data logging practices of neuropathologist Dr. Louise Eisenhardt (1891-1967), and compares them to modern data management practices, policies, and standards. Though review of items in Yale’s Cushing Center, located in the Cushing/Whitney Medical Library, about Dr. Eisenhardt, as well as several external sources detailing her data collection and organization work, this poster evaluates that work side-by-side with modern data management strategies, such as the 2023 National Institutes of Health Data Management and Sharing policy and other related guidelines. In bringing the historical and the current together, this poster aims to illustrate Dr. Eisenhardt’s pioneering work in data management, and to demonstrate that while data management has evolved over the years, it is by no means a new endeavor.
