Catalogue of variable stars in open cluster fields

Description

Compared to field stars, parameters like age, distance, or metallicity can be determined more accurately for open clusters statistically through numerous cluster members. Since most kinds of variable stars are also present in open clusters, they offer the unique possibility to study all the various star groups and their dependency on age or environmental properties in much more detail. We have compiled a catalogue of known variable stars in open cluster regions and with up to two times the given cluster radius. This provides basic information about the distribution of variable stars in cluster fields for the complete sky. We took all variable and suspected variable stars into account from the complete collection, "The AAVSO Variable Star Index" (VSX). We did a crossmatch of these stars with the complete catalogue of galactic open clusters by Hunt & Reffert (2023). We primarily discuss the potential of small satellite missions in studying variables in open clusters.
