16. Pedicularis gibbera Prain (1889: 262).

Protologue citation:—“EASTERN HIMALAYA: East Nepal, 13–14,000 feet, at Tha-moo-tsa, Esan-an-gi, Pey-kiong-la and Bijan, (Dr. King’s collectors!)”.

Type:— INDIA. Sikkim: West Jongri, Sukki-moral, Aug. 1887, King’s collector s.n. (lectotype CAL0000019036!, designated here); isolectotypes CAL0000019037!, DD!

Notes:— Pedicularis gibbera was described by Prain (1889) based on the gatherings of King’s collectors from Sikkim, India and Nepal. Pertaining to the type specification given in protologue, twelve specimens collected by King’s collectors from different area of Sikkim, India in the year 1887 and 1888 (right side specimen of BM001010984, BM001010985, CAL0000019016, CAL0000019034, CAL0000019035, CAL0000019036, CAL0000019037, two specimens in DD, K000739095, K000739096 and PH00019475) and five specimens from Nepal in the year 1888 (left side specimen of BM001010984, CAL0000019041, E00273629, E00273630 and P02976799) were traced. All these specimens were annotated by Prain as “ Pedicularis gibbera Prain or P. gibbera Prain ”. Of these, the best preserved specimen CAL0000019036, is designated here as the lectotype; it also has drawing of flower parts on the sheet by D. Prain.
