Type (lectotype, designated here):— BRAZIL. Rio de Janeiro, March 1832, Riedel 871 (LE01041379; isolectotypes: P02202414, P02202415, S no.09-21813). Remaining syntypes:— BRAZIL. no date, Sellow 198 (BM000884612, K000586889, K000586889, B [†]). BRAZIL. Serra d’Antigua, no date, Schott s.n. (BM000884605, W [†]). (Fig. 11)

Protologue citation:—“Brasilia: Leg. Sello (Herb. Berolin.); in umbrosis sylvis prov.

Rio Janeiro Martio flor. leg. Breideb. (Herb. Hort. Petrop.). in Serra d’Antigua leg. Schott (Herb. Vindob.).”

Notes:— Körnicke (1862) cited gatherings from Sellow (B), Riedel (“ Breideb ” on protologue) (LE), and Schott (W). Three specimens of Sellow are at BM and K herbaria, but all are duplicates of the specimen destroyed, once placed at B herbarium. The same is true for the Schott collection, which was originally housed at W and posteriorly destroyed. Nonetheless, a duplicate remains at BM herbarium. The Riedel 871 gathering is at LE herbarium, and duplicates can be found at P and S. We designate here the specimen LE 01041379 (Riedel 871) as the lectotype since it is the only one still housed at the original herbarium cited in the protologue.
