An improved description of neutrino emission from SN1987A

Description
Neutrinos from core-collapse supernovae are a crucial target of many ongoing experiments; their detection, in an age of advanced instrumentation, promises to lead to powerful insights in the fields of astrophysics, nuclear physics and particle physics. Current efforts directed to ab initio simulations, although increasingly refined, are still limited in providing an entirely reliable description of neutrino emission; it is therefore essential to study as accurately as possible the only such event observed so far with neutrino telescopes, that of SN1987A. With these motivations we consider all neutrino experiments that reported neutrino events in 1987 and proceed to conduct the most accurate analysis possible by incorporating the most complete information on energy, time and angle of the detected events, operational parameters of the detectors, furthermore adopting the best statistical tools currently available. For the fit, we employ a new model for the emission, with physically meaningful parameters that we find as a result of the analysis. We will present their best fit values and the corresponding energy, time and angle distributions resulting from the data analysis, discussing the quality of the fit and the correspondence with expectations.
