Description
This dataset contains start- and end times of intervals measured by spacecraft. The datasets were generated accompanying the work by Koller et al. (2025, doi:10.1029/2025JA034098, JGR: Space Physics): "Stability of the Earth’s Dayside Magnetosheath: Effects of Upstream Solar Wind Structures and Downstream Jets". The following files describe the time intervals applied in the aforementioned paper:
- OMNI_SIR_HSS_1995_2023_Koller2025.txt : Stream interaction region and high-speed streams 1995-2023 using OMNI data
- THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_intervals_spin_resolution.txt: Subsolar magnetosheath intervals identified in Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) spacecraft data between 2008-01-01 and 2023-12-31 (16 years). The intervals are based on the THEMIS ESA and FGM measurements in 3s spin resolution.
- THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_spin_resolution_10s_jet_plaschke.txt: Subsolar magnetosheath jets identified in THEMIS spacecraft data between 2008 and 2023 (16 years) using the Plaschke et al. (2013) criterion. Only jets that exceed a duration of 10s are considered.
- THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_spin_resolution_10s_jet_archer.txt : Subsolar magnetosheath jets identified in THEMIS spacecraft data between 2008 and 2023 (16 years) using the Archer et al. (2013) criterion. Only jets that exceed a duration of 10s are considered.
The following jet list is based on the same sheath intervals and uses another criterion which is not used in the aforementioned paper:
- THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_spin_resolution_10s_jet_koller.txt: Subsolar magnetosheath jets identified in THEMIS spacecraft data between 2008 and 2023 (16 years) using the Koller et al. (2022) criterion. Only jets that exceed a duration of 10s are considered.
The following lists follow the same content and format as the previous THEMIS datasets using a common 1s interpolated measurement cadence instead of the native 3s spin resolution. This is in line with previous publications using the same approach (e.g. Plaschke et al. (2013), LaMoury et al. (2021), Vuorinen et al. (2019)):
- Interpolated_1s_THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_intervals.txt: Subsolar magnetosheath intervals identified in Time History of Events and Macroscale Interactions during Substorms (THEMIS) spacecraft data between 2008-01-01 and 2023-12-31 (16 years). The intervals are based on the THEMIS ESA and FGM measurements interpolated to the same 1s cadence.
- Interpolated_1s_THEMIS_2008_2023_subsolar_magnetosheath_10s_jet_plaschke.txt: Subsolar magnetosheath jets identified in THEMIS spacecraft data between 2008 and 2023 (16 years) using the Plaschke et al. (2013) criterion. Only jets that exceed a duration of 10s are considered. The magnetosheath intervals are using 1s interpolated measurement to allow for better differentiation at the edges of jets.
