Postprocessing and Figure Scripts: Road fragment edges enhance wildfire incidence and intensity, while suppressing global burned area

Description

Model code and output post-processing and figure scripts for publication "Road fragment edges enhance wildfire incidence and intensity, while suppressing global burned area "

README

lpj_spitfire_highlights.rtf : This is a RTF-formatted file containing the SPITFIRE module used in this study, which is embedded within the wider ORCHIDEE land surface model.  This file highlights the additions made to the model for the spitfire road density - fire implementation in bold, for reference.  The .rtf format enables bold font, whereas the model code is written in FOTRAN-90 (.f90).

dFRAC_BA_VS_CTRL_BIOME_POPD.nc : This contains the processed fractional change in burned area due to fragmentation (the fractional change in BA versus a control run without fragmentation) per biome, as used in biome-specific analysis in the manuscript, in addition to population density data used in this study.

dFRAC_BA_VS_CTRL_yrsum_mean.nc : This file contains the annualised simulated mean change in fractional burned area versus the control simulation, without biome-specific processing.

Deforestation_Fire_Intensity_Agreement_Mask.sh : Mask used to filter grids where fire intensity increased historically and occurred in conjunction with increased deforestation in Southeast Asia, in conjunction with increased modelled fire due to fragmentation.  Appended is the R script used to map-plot these areas of agreement in Indonesia (SI).

Plantation_Age_Extent_Process.sh: Shell script for processing of plantation age and extent data for use in model output analysis of Southeast Asian fragmentation fires (see SI).

Roads_AED_Treatment.sh: Script for processing the original Meijer et al (2018) road density data from text to netcdf format.

Biome_Mask_Fire.sh: This script creates biome masks used to analyse biome-specific model output.

Fig2_Regression.r: This R script is used to plot the Logit-BA / Road Density regression curves in Fig. 2 of the manuscript.

Brazil_Fragmentation.sh : This is the set of commands for processing model output and Rosan et al. 2022
data into a single file, which is then read into R and generates Fig. 3a in the manuscript.

Frag_Fire_PopD_Hmap_GAM.r: 2 sections. Shell script used to process model output into biome specific delta fragmentation BA and population density.  R script used to generate the delta fragmentation fire versus population density heat density map and generalised additive model curves (GAM) in Fig. 3b.

Fragmentation_Doubling_Processing.sh: Shell script used to process the fragmentation-doubling sensitivity experiments into outputs that are used in the analysis (e.g. Fig 4b).
