Description

URODINYCHIDAE Berlese, 1917

This family contains about 250 species belonging to four genera. Eight species were collected on Passalidae; three were found on three host species and five species were found on undetermined Passalidae (Pearse et al. 1936; Reinert 1973; Delfinado and Baker 1975; WiŚniewski and Hirschmann 1992, 1993b; WiŚniewski et al. 1992; Villegas-Guzmán et al. 2008). Most species were collected from Odontotaenius zodiacus (3) and the largest number of host species was found for Uroobovella californiana WiŚniewski and Hirschmann, 1992 (3) (Tables 2, 4 and 9). Species in this family occur on Passalidae by chance, perhaps with the exception of U. californiana.
