Description

Summary. The Moldovan way of life and obviously their traditional dwelling have been objects
of observation for travelers from Medieval and Modern Periods. However, a more scientific approach
to the description of Moldovan dwelling from Pruto-Dnestrian space began after its annexation to
the Russian Empire (1812). There was a necessity of collecting data about the newly-conquered territory. So, Bessarabia has become a subject of study for different scientists. They used the methods
of observation, description, interview. Later on, in the Interwar Period, the research was done by
the scientists from the Romanian Social Institute, the Chisinau regional, who have studied villages
using the monographic method. In soviet times the field research was more organized, the houses’
descriptions were done detailed, by certain criteria. The Digital Ethnographic Archive contains all
dossiers. In our displacements in two villages of Moldova we have used the methods of observation,
description, interview and photo/video/audio registration.
Key words: ethnographic field research, method, Moldovan traditional dwelling, Pruto-Dnestrian space, past and present.
