Julie Vinter Hansen Event

A spacious atrium in the new Niels Bohr Building in Copenhagen has been named
after the astronomer Julie Vinter Hansen. An event took place here with welcome by Maren
Malling as chair of Women in Physics who had given the name. She gave the reasons for the
naming and introduced as speakers three astronomers who had known Vinter Hansen in the
1950s. The presentations with many illustrations are included here and provide an authentic
view of Danish astronomy at that time long ago and of Vinter Hansen as astronomer and acting
director and as a person.
