Reassessment of the distribution area and conservation status of Xeroplexa setubalensis (Pfeiffer, 1850), an endemic Portuguese land snail

In this paper we present the distribution area of Xeroplexa setubalensis, a land snail endemic to the Serra da Arrábida and littoral cliffs in the Setúbal peninsula, Portugal, based on specific fieldwork and compiled sporadic information. Its distribution area is extended ≈20 km westwards of previously known locations, along a narrow strip associated with limestone facing southwards. With the data obtained we reassessed the IUCN conservation status as endangered EN, based on a severely fragmented extent of occurrence, reduced area of occupancy with inferred continuing decline.
