Spirotropis hernandezi (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Drilliidae), a new species from West Sahara

Description

A new species of the genus Spirotropis G.O.Sars, 1878, family Drilliidae, is described from West Sahara, based on shell characters. It is compared with the Recent species of the genus inhabiting the North Atlantic Ocean, particularly Spirotropis confusa (Seguenza, 1880) and Spirotropis monterosatoi (Locard, 1897), and also with European fossil species. The new species seems to be restricted to a limited geographic area in the continental shelf of West Sahara.
