Description

Abstract: Concrete is the most often utilized construction material, yet its popularity raises major environmental concerns. To overcome these environmental concerns and enhance sustainability in construction, many research scholars have conducted various studies and found carbonated concrete as a ground breaking innovation in sustainable construction. Therefore, this study examines the feasibility and advantages of incorporating carbonation into mix as a sustainable construction material. The study focuses on the carbonation process, where carbon dioxide (CO2) reacts with concrete to form calcium carbonate, potentially enhancing the material durability and reducing its environmental impact. The research explores the principal benefits and challenges associated with carbonated concrete, shedding light on its potential to revolutionize the construction industry by mitigating environmental impact while simultaneously improving material performance. The experimental methodology involves laboratory tests, including compressive strength measurements and porosity assessments. The study delves into the mechanism of carbonation and its impact on the micro structure of concrete, investigating how it influences properties such as porosity and permeability. Furthermore, ongoing research efforts and potential applications of carbonated concrete in various construction projects emphasize its role in fostering a more sustainable environment.

Keywords: Carbonated concrete, Porosity, Permeability, Compressive strength.
