Description
Lectotype (designated here):— BRAZIL. Acre, Rio Juruá-Mirim, September 1901, E. Ule 5784 (lectotype: MG 5693!).
Nomenclatural notes:— In the protologue it is mentioned that the type was deposited at the Berlin herbarium (B); however, this specimen was not found there. Here we choose a specimen stored at the herbarium of the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi (MG 5693) because it is the only specimen known and because it contains a branch with leaves, syconia and stipules in excellent condition. The name Ficus juruensis was first mentioned by Ule (1907) without a diagnosis, then, Standley (1937b) described the species in detail but did not include a Latin description or diagnosis as the Art. 39.1 of the ICN advised (Turland et al., 2018), only Dugand (1956) legitimated the name.
Taxonomical notes:— Ficus juruensis is accepted by Dugand (1946) but is later synonimized by Carauta (1989) as Ficus velutina Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willdenow (1806: 1141) and by Berg & Villavicencio (2004) as Ficus trigona. This is a taxonomic uncertainty which requires further study.
