ALLEA Report - Towards Net Zero in the European Academies

Moving to Net Zero is crucial to mitigate climate change and ensure a sustainable future, with European academies of sciences and humanities playing a key role by providing research, raising awareness, and leading by example. In May 2022, ALLEA released a report highlighting that the academic sector is not currently climate sustainable, offering actionable strategies to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions without compromising research excellence or collaboration. This follow-up report, based on a survey of ALLEA’s members, assesses Net Zero approaches within these academies, providing an overview of policies, initiatives, and recommendations for immediate implementation and future monitoring.
