Description
29. Crotalaria neriifolia Wallich ex Bentham (1843: 560). Type (lectotype designated here):— MYANMAR. Tong Dong: 25 January 1862, Wallich 5362 (lectotype K-W K001120677!, isolectotypes K000591096!).
Herb, erect, 0.8–1.5 m high; young branches angular, glabrous. Leaves simple. Stipules narrowly linear, 0.5–1 mm long, caducous. Petioles 2–4 mm long, white puberulous. Lamina oblong or linear, 1.7–15.5 × 0.3–1.5 cm, base obtuse or cuneate, apex acute, margin entire, both surfaces glabrous; lateral veins 5–10 pairs. Inflorescences terminal, open racemes, 9–30 cm long; peduncle 1.3–2 cm long, glabrous. Bracts narrowly linear, 1–3 mm long, persistent. Pedicels 1–1.4 cm long, with arachnoid pubescence. Bracteoles inserted in the middle of the pedicel, rarely distally, narrowly linear, 0.3–1 mm long, caducous. Calyx 1–1.3 cm long, campanulate, bilabiate; tube 2–3 mm long; lobes triangular, 7–10 mm long, both sides glabrous. Corolla yellow. Standard: claw 1–1.5 mm long, glabrous; blade elliptic, 2–2.2 × 1.5–1.7 cm, abaxially with red-brown line along the veins on the outer sides, base truncate, apex rounded, margin glabrous. Wings: claw 1.5–2 mm long, glabrous; blade elliptic, 1–1.1 × 0.5–0.6 cm, base oblique, apex obtuse, margin glabrous. Keel: claw 1.8–2 mm long, glabrous, margin white tomentose; blade ovate, 1.2–1.3 × 0.8–0.9 cm, beak spirally twisted, base truncate white tomentose, apex attenuate, margin glabrous. Stamens: filaments fused for proximal 3–4 mm, free for distal 5–6 mm; anthers either narrowly linear, 3–3.5 mm long or oblong, 1.8–2 mm long. Ovary with 2–2.5 mm long stipe, oblong, 7–8 mm long, brown pubescent; style 11–12 mm long, adaxially white puberulous in a single line along the distal edge, abaxially glabrous. Pods with 3–4 mm long stipe, oblong, 4.5–5 × 0.8–1 cm, brown, puberulous. Seeds reniform, 3.5–3.8 × 2.8–3 mm, brown-black.

Distribution: —Asia (Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia). (Figure 18).
Ecology: —Roadsides and open places in deciduous dipterocarp forests, elevation 160–1040 m.
Notes: —The diagnostic characters of C. neriifolia are the red-brown lines along the veins on the outer sides of the standard, the oblong pods that are brown puberulous and the glabrous leaves, peduncle, calyx and keel. There are three duplicates of Wallich 5362 of which one is chosen as the lectotype here.
