Description
Trees ca. 12 m tall. Dark brown rhytidome. Branches erect, cylindrical, not winged, whitish; branches, petioles, leaves abaxial surface, inflorescences, bracts, bracteoles, hypanthium and fruits with arachnoid persistent trichomes. Leaves opposite, isophyllous; petioles striate 1.5–1.7 mm long; leaf blades 13.4–15.9 × 4.6–5.6 cm, chartaceous, discolored, symmetrical, elliptical, base cuneate or rounded, apex acute, margins entire and ciliate, adaxial side glabrous, leaf veins 5, basal; ant domatia absent. Paniculate scorpioid ca. 6.3 × 5.8 cm,, terminal; bracts ca. 2.7 mm long, lanceolate, persistent; bracteoles ca. 0.5 mm long. Flowers 5-merous, sessile; hypanthium ca. 1.2 mm long, campanulate, smooth; calyx simple, persistent; lacinia triangular; petals ca. 1.8 × 1.2 mm, white, obovate, symmetrical, apex rounded, base truncate, margins not ciliate, glabrous; stamens 10, heteromorphic, smaller anthers ca. 1.6 mm, larger anthers ca. 2.3 mm long, white, oblong, straight, apex attenuate, anthers with a cordiform appendage at the base, with 1 ventral pore, connective not prolonged, smaller filaments ca. 1.4 mm, larger filaments ca. 2.1 mm long; ovary ca. 1.2 mm long, half-inferior, placentation axillary, 3-locular, glabrous; style ca. 3.2 mm long, straight, glabrous. Berry ca. 2.4 × 2.5 mm, unripe fruit green, ripe fruit blackish; fruits with up to 13 seeds, triangular.

Additional specimen examined:— BRAZIL. Pará, Santarém, 19 February 1979, fl., M.R. Santos 566 (INPA!).
Distribution and habitat:— Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia (Goldenberg et al. 2013). In Brazil it occurs in Amazonian forests (Goldenberg & Caddah 2015). In the reserve, it occurs in “terra firme” plateaus, on well drained, clay soil with a lot of organic matter.
Comments:— This species is not infrequent in the reserve. It can be distinguished by the dark brown rhytidome with detaching vertical plates, cylindrical branches and leaves with arachnoid trichomes and entire or serrate-ciliate margins.
