Type: USA. Utah: Emery Co., Green River, 09 May 1890, M. E. Jones s.n. (holotype: POM; isotypes: NY, UC, US, WIS-fragment).

Heterotypic synonyms: Cleomella cornuta Rydberg (1903: 249). Type: USA. Utah: Wayne Co., Caineville, alt. 4500 ft. [1350 m], 20 Jun 1894, M. E. Jones 5656 (holotype: US 326447!; isotypes: BRY, NY, POM, RM, UC).— Cleomella nana Eastwood (1903: 490). Type: USA. Utah: Between Thompson’s Springs and Moab in SE Utah, 24 May 1892, A. Eastwood s.n. (holotype: CAS; isotypes: NY, RM).— Cleomella montrosae Payson (1915: 375). Type: USA. Colorado: Montrose, 13 Oct 1912, E. B. Payson 222 (holotype: RM 82161).
