Description
Type:— BRAZIL. Amazonas: in Brasiliae inundatis ad flum. Rio Negro, Martius s.n. (Myrtus inundata Mart. herb.) (holotype M!, isotype G-DC!, F!).
Eugenia inundata DC. var. coriacea O. Berg (1857: 319). Type:— BRAZIL. Amazonas: Tefé, vulgatissima in marginibus camporum saepe inundatorum aliasque stirpes fere excludens, ad oppidum Ega prov. do Alto Amazonas, October, Poeppig 2729 (syntype B †; lectotype W!, designated here; isolectotypes F!, G!, LE!, MICH!, NY!, P!).
Notes:—The specimen Poeppig 2729 (W) has been designated as the lectotype of Eugenia inundata var. coriacea, once the syntype from B (also Poeppig 2729) has been destroyed.
Eugenia inundata DC. var. membranacea O. Berg (1857: 318) is an invalid name, as includes the type-specimen of Eugenia inundata [Martius s.n. (M)] as a type of the variety.
Distribution:— Eugenia inundata is an Amazonian species, growing in water, in várzea land, igapó forest and transition area between igapó forest and terra firme forest.
