Description

Suillus triacicularis B. Verma & M.S. Reddy, Phytotaxa 162(3): 160 (2014). Fig. 3

Pileus 3.6–5.5 cm wide, convex, yellowish white to pale yellow reddish or orange yellow, surface dry, non-sticky, smooth, umbo and scales absent, margin deflexed or incurved, smooth, entire. Stipe 5–8 cm long, 7 mm wide near proximal end, 10 mm wide near the base, subclavate to equal, centric, curved, solid, pale yellowish with reddish brown glandular dots which spread throughout stipe but fewer at base, annulus absent, white mycelium present at the base. Tubes decurrent. Pore mouths angular, yellow or pale yellow, unchanging upon bruising, 1–2 per mm. Odor and taste not recorded. Basidiospores 6.3–8.9 × 3.3–4 μm, (Q = 1.6–2.2), oblong, thin walled, smooth, hyaline, some with brown pigment in KOH, pale yellow in Melzer’s reagent. Basidia 15–24 × 4–6 μm, clavate or cylindrical, 2–4 spored, hyaline in KOH, pale yellow in Melzer’s reagent. Cheliocystidia 19–87.5 × 4.9–10.6 (–13.2) μm, cylindrical or clavate, in fascicles, thin walled, hyaline, with dark brown contents in KOH. Pleurocystidia 22.4–70.8 × 5.1–10.7 μm, cylindrical or clavate, in fascicles or scattered, hyaline, with brown contents in KOH. Caulocystidia 23.6–85.6 × 6.6–14.5 μm, clavate or cylindrical, hyaline, with brown contents. Pileipellis a tangled layer of cylindrical, thin walled, 3–4.7 μm wide hyphae, gelatinized. Edibility unknown.
