Adaptive Re-use of Zahir ol-Islam Mansion + Building Information

The Zahir ol-Islam Mansion, located in the central district of Tehran, Iran, is a notable example of Qajar-era architecture. While there are no definitive plaques or inscriptions detailing its exact construction date, studies suggest that the building was likely constructed in the later years of Naser-Eldin Shah’s reign, between 1848 and 1896. This estimate is based on the building's blend of traditional and European architectural styles, as well as its distinctive gable roof (Faraji et al., 2022). 

The mansion’s architecture is a harmonious mix of Iranian and Western styles, featuring intricate plasterwork, Islamic pattern carvings, and decorative brickwork. The study's findings propose an adaptive reuse of the mansion, suggesting it be transformed into a flexible boutique hotel and heritage book gallery.
