Description

This software executable performs a statistical evaluation of functional differences that may be present between experimental groups that have been characterized by differences in gene expression levels (e.g., a comparison of a treatment and a control for their differences in gene expression).  Genes upregulated in both the treatment and control groups would be entered in a single column list with a simple identifier of which group the gene belongs to in the second column of the file.  The program then uses functional effects gene lists that are associated with different physiological traits that can be obtained from the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) Knowledge Base (RRID:SCR_008117).  The gene lists provide gene IDs for various genes known to ‘affect’, ‘increase’, or ‘decrease’ the function of the trait being considered.  The program assigns a Functional Effects group score (FEg) to each group, and reports if one of the groups possesses a gene complement that significantly enhances the physiological trait being considered, or whether there are no significant differences between the two groups.  Additional information how to use the program is provided in the accompanying WORD NOTES or NOTES.pdf documents.
