The School Textbook: an Academic Course with Its Institutional Framework and Specific Perspectives

The article presents the concept of the School Textbook academic course, which was developed for Master level studies addressed to school teachers specialized in the Language and Communication curricular area; however, the course is not limited to this particular area and may be applied to any other curricular area and school subject. Starting from the premise that both future teachers and those already employed in this role need a virtual compass in order to find their way in the deluge of didactic literature present on the market, our course intends to build a bridge between the subject curriculum as a normative act that is mandatory for all and the school book accessed by teachers and students. We present the topics of the course and its detailed content units as well as its methodological side, including specific strategies, methods, and work techniques for the classroom and individual tasks. We also stipulate the forms of current and final assessment and the products to be developed by MA students based on functional textbooks for the subject they teach. Finally, we estimate the prospective impact this course is going to have on the training of an educator.
