Saccopteryx antioquensis n. sp. (Chiroptera: Emballonuridae) del Noroeste de Colombia

Description

(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) A new specie of sheath-tailed bat (Chiroptera: Emballonuridae: genus Saccopteryx) is decribed, based on two specimens (holotype and paratype) captured in the eastern portien of Antioquia department, Colombia. This new species is most similar to Saccopteryx gymnura, which was described by Thomas in 1901, and the holotype is recorded in The Natural Hístory Museum (London). The new species can be separated from other bats ofthe same genus by its external and cranial measurernents, by its hairy uropatagium, wings originating from the rnetatarsus. and overall brown dorsal coloration without stripes.
