Lumpy skin disease in bovines

lumpy skin disease (LSD) is one of the most important emerging diseases. Lumpy    skin disease is an infectious viral disease of cattle that is caused by the lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) of the capri-pox virus genus.The disease is characterized by high body temp. and enlarged superficial lymph nodes on the skin and peculiar multiple nodules or lumps on the skin, decrease milk production, abortion and It may also lead to death, especially in animals that have not previously been exposed to the virus or have low immunity. This is a highly host-specific disease that is arthropod-borne infectious disease of bovines.  It is transmitted by blood-sucking insects, such as certain species of flies, mosquitoes and ticks. This disease causes enormous economic losses, such as leather damage and decrease in milk production. It primarily affects cows and a less extend in buffalo. Effective preventive measures are suggested based on the outbreak of LSD.
