Description
Abstract
Intra-urban residential relocation is a phenomenon that is often triggered by some pushing and pulling
factors. For any specific wave of residential relocation, various triggering factors play varying roles in
the wave. This study examines the factors that triggered intra-urban residential relocations of
households during over two decades of violent conflicts in Jos metropolis. A survey and quantitative
method were used to generate both primary and secondary data. A total of 335 questionnaires were
distributed and only 258 were returned and analysed. The study made use of frequency count,
percentages and analysis of variance to analyze the data obtained in order to answer the research
question. The study revealed that although the factors of insecurity and high rental value constitute the
major triggers for intra urban residential relocation in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau
State during the period of violence; some other factors such as family ties, religion and availability of
amenities are also significant in triggering the relocations. The study recommends non-piecemeal and
proactive measures to ensure inclusive housing development and durable solutions for victims of violent
conflicts.
