  • it unambiguously belongs to this species based on the general habitus, ventrally setose mandibles and mentum, as well as the presence of a pair of yellowish setal patches on the metaventrite (Huang and Chen 2013). The morphological features of the mandibles also fully agree with those of F. mellianus.
  • This is the first formal record of F. mellianus from Laos. This species was originally described from "Tscha-jiu-san", northern Guangdong, China (Kriesche 1921). The locality we report is geographically close to the northern part of Vietnam, where this species was already known to occur. Therefore, the discovery of F. mellianus from Laos was not surprising. Nevertheless, it helps in our understanding of the local 18 insect fauna in Laos, filling a small geographical gap R. Shoup, and T. von Rintelen. 2014. Borneo for this species.
