Description

At a minimum participatory (or “citizen”) science refers to non-researcher volunteers participating in research. This presentation tackles a two-fold look at participatory science. First, we’ll look at the myriad of ways that libraries are incorporating participatory sciences into their services - as seen through a comprehensive review of guides and other online resources created by academic libraries in the United States and Canada. Second, we'll talk about the ways in which participatory science, open science, and library or university community engagement efforts are important to library research support services. Participants should come away from the presentation with practical ideas for their own engagement in participatory science and inspiration that makes it easier to connect participatory science to open science services.
