Description

This paper reviews the maturation process that the Global Working Group “Fablabs and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” has gone through and in which they tried to involve more and more fablabs in the SDGs.
During the FAB13 Conference in Chile (2017) "Fabricating Society" the former Fablab Life Cycle Working Group transformed into a new Fablabs & UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Working Group. At first this WG mainly aimed for Awareness from the fablabs about the SDGs. The next stage was that of Alignment. The WG asked the fablabs to determine an SDG profile and to align their internal policy with it. More than 21% of the fablabs have now done this. The working group provides monthly overviews and statistics.
The next challenge is actually helping to realize social impact as expressed in the SDG sub-goals ("targets"). The WG will present how it is working on this (including with a management game) and discuss the merits of this approach.
The process this group has gone through can be expanded or generalized as a model for effective  fablab involvement in SDGs implementation.
