The article presents a systematic which organizes the diversity of academic achievements linked to research. The proposed matrix describes four core tasks of research in the context of four essential reference groups. The intention is to achieve a discursive understanding and certainty about research. Moreover, the matrix can also serve as an initial point concerning the definition of institutional strategic priorities or individual work planning as well as with regard to systematic quality management.
