Subglacial particle tracking dataset from the Otemma Glacier, southwestern Switzerland

Description

This dataset supports:

Jenkin et al. (2026), “Coarse Sediment Transport in a Near-Terminus Subglacial Channel”

It contains curated particle metadata and downstream transport-distance records for 324 active RFID-tagged pebbles and cobbles injected into a snout-marginal subglacial channel at Glacier d'Otemma, southwestern Switzerland, during the mid to late 2021 melt season.

Data collection followed the active-RFID particle tracking methodology described in:

Jenkin et al. (2023), “Tracking coarse sediment in an Alpine subglacial channel using radio-tagged particles”

and its related Zenodo method archive.

Particle mobility analyses and their relation to proglacial discharge and sediment export are described in Jenkin et al. (2026). This third version of the dataset reflects changes made during peer review. Previous versions are retained for record-keeping but are not supported for reuse.

ID: particle ID code
seed_time: time of particle seeding [fractional day of year]

a: particle longest axis [mm]
b: particle intermediate axis [mm]
