Hurricane Ida Flood Extent in Southeastern Pennsylvania

Description

This geojson file depicts the flood extent resulting from Hurricane Ida in southeastern Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware, Bucks counties) on September 2, 2021. The flood extent was derived from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery (10 m) and a Random Forest machine learning model. The methods are outlined in a study published in Natural Hazards.

While the model had high accuracy predicting floods (>97% user's and producer's accuracies for the flood class), the flood extent does not include flooded areas under obstructions (e.g. bridges, vegetation, etc.) and there may be missed or missclassified floods. We are always interested in more flood observations and if an area is not captured in the extent, please feel free to contact Rebecca Composto and your observation will be added to the training dataset.

The "Class" feature identifies if the area is NotWater (0), Water (permanent) (1), or Flood (2).
