Radon Background Mitigation for the SuperNEMO Experiment
Description
SuperNEMO is a tracker-calorimeter neutrinoless double beta decay experiment using 82Se to reach a sensitivity of T${1/2} > 10^{26} y,andtheeffectiveneutrinomassof\langle m{\beta\beta}\rangle<40-100 meV.TheconstructionofthefirstDemonstratorModuleattheLSMisundercompletion,withtheaimtoreach0backgroundintheROIofthe0\nu\beta\betadecay.Thistargetplacedchallengingdemandsontheradiopurityofdetectorcomponents,andparticularlythe^{222}Rnactivitywithinthetracker.A‘‘RadonConcentrationLine″wasdevelopedandoperatedinconjunctionwithaelectrostaticdetectortomeasure^{222}Rncontentingastoafew\muBq/m^3.Measurementsofaninstrumentedtrackerhaveconfirmedthatthetargetof0.15mBq/m^3$ of radon has been met. In addition, studies of radon emanation in the presence of tracking gas quenchers, have been carried out. The poster will present the design of radon emanation facilities and measurement results.
