ОПЕРАЦІЙНІ МОДУСИ КОНЦЕПТУ «PERSONAL NAME»

Description

The article deals with modelling the structure of the concept PERSONAL NAME by means of operating modi. As a whole, this concept has been considered within the framework of cognitive and discourse paradigm, the approach of operating modi by M.V. Nikitin has been used for the analysis of this concept. Basic semantic characteristics of “PERSONAL NAME” concept have been defined as follows: a person’s name, reputation, a celebrity’s name, a family, gens, offensive nicknames. Implicative characteristics of “PERSONAL NAME” concept have also been considered, such as: ownership, reference, name, power, indication, fictitiousness, candidacy. The characteristics of intensional and strong implicational of “PERSONAL NAME” concept do not have any strict borders and their quantity is limited, they bring about the contents of idealized cognitive model of a person’s individual name. The quantity of characteristics of a weak implicational of “PERSONAL NAME” concept is not limited, which illustrates the open dynamic structure of the latter. The description of characteristics, forming the intensional and implicational of “PERSONAL NAME” concept, defines the volume of the concept’s normative modus. To correlate the stated characteristics, an approach of concept’s frame modelling by S.A. Zhabotinska, who distinguishes five basic frames with various modifications and which form a frame network, has been used. The network structure of the “PERSONAL NAME” sphere of concepts, which is a notional basis for a corresponding lexical and semantical field of modern English nouns, has been analyzed.The “PERSONAL NAME” concept has been concluded to comprise a system of characteristics, connected with each other, correlating with knots and relations in a corresponding frame network.
