The contribution of the scientists of the Kyiv-Mohylianska Academy to the development of psychohygiene in Ukraine in the ХVІІth – ХVІІІth centuries.

Description

The purpose of the article is to analyze and synthesize sources and literature on fi nding out the
contributions of the scientists of the Kyiv-Mohylianska Academy to the development of psychohygiene in Ukraine
in the ХVІІth – ХVІІІth centuries.
In the result of research it was found out that the scientists of the Kyiv-Mohylianska Academy made
a signifi cant contribution to the development of psychohygiene in Ukraine in the ХVІІth–ХVІІІth centuries. In
particular, I. Gizel, the fi rst well-known professos of this academy, promoted the doctrine of soul’s health in his
lectures. S. Yavorskyi fi rst characterized the state of psychics health and his disorders, and also introduced the
term «psychology» to the sci entifi c treatment. The theory of the affects of the soul, developed by F. Prokopovych,
made it possible to reveal both a common basis and a system of interconnections in expressing emotions.
S. Kalynovskyi, having considered the age-old peculiarities of learning moral skills, determined the place of
moral education in providing mental health of the individual and the role of the teacher in the prevention of
mental illness. S. Kuliabka disclosed one of the important conceptual foundations of the psychology of the
age-old development of a healthy child. G. Konyskyi created the theory of happiness, clarifi ed the defi nition
of objective and formal happiness in the developed courses of philosophy and psychology. H. Shcherbatskyi
introduced the concept of «varieties of the system of soul», the basis of which is cognition. H. Skovoroda covered
problems of mental and physical health; moral upbringing; the continuity of the education and upbringing of
children, the role of the teacher in the learning process, which became the basis for the further development of
psychohygiene education and upbringing. Psychological views by Ya. Kozelskyi contributed to the identifi cation
of interrelationships and the balance of psychic’s activity, and his substantiated human responsibilities towards
themselves became the basis for further development of the foundations of psychohygiene of the individual.
