From Minustah to chaos: The role of foreign interventions in Haiti's humanitarian crises

Este estudo explora a complexidade das intervenções humanitárias no Haiti, concentrando-se na Missão das Nações Unidas para a Estabilização no Haiti (MINUSTAH) e outras desde o início do século XXI. Aborda a persistência da crise humanitária e de segurança, exacerbada por instabilidades políticas, desigualdades socioeconômicas, e a longa história de domínio estrangeiro direto ou indireto. Analisa-se o impacto da MINUSTAH e do Core Group, recebendo críticas por sua influência considerável nos assuntos internos do país. Utiliza o referencial teórico e metodológico do imperialismo para examinar como essas intervenções, frequentemente justificadas por promover paz, democracia e direitos humanos, falham em resolver os problemas fundamentais.
Abstract (English)
This study explores the complexity of humanitarian interventions in Haiti, focusing on the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) and others since the beginning of the 21st century. It addresses the persistence of the humanitarian and security crisis, exacerbated by political instabilities, socioeconomic inequalities, and a long history of direct or indirect foreign domination. The impact of MINUSTAH and the Core Group is analyzed, receiving criticism for their considerable influence on the country's internal affairs. It utilizes the theoretical and methodological framework of imperialism to examine how these interventions, often justified by promoting peace, democracy, and human rights, fail to resolve the fundamental problems.
