RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PRINCIPALS STAFF DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES AND TEACHERS JOB EFFECTIVENESS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

The study investigated the relationship between principal’s staff development strategies and teachers job effectiveness in secondary schools in Anambra State. One research question and one hypothesis guided the study. The correlational research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study comprised 266 principals in the six Education Zones of 266 public secondary schools in Anambra State. Data for this study was collected by means of two structured questionnaires developed by the researcher. The instruments were validated by three experts in education. The data collected were analyzed using Cronbach Alpha and coefficient value of 0.81 for Instrument A.  Furthermore, test of reliability on Instrument B using Cronbach Alpha reliability Co-efficient yielded coefficient value of 0.78.  The Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to analyze data for the study. The finding of the study revealed that there is a very high positive relationship between principal’s staff development strategies and teachers job effectiveness in secondary schools in Anambra State. Furthermore, result revealed a significant relationship between principals’ adoption of staff development strategy and teachers’ job effectiveness in public secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on these findings, the researcher recommended among others that Government at all levels should put in place policies that promote the organization of staff development programmes for secondary school teachers
