Description
This article examines modern views on the etiology and pathogenesis of periodontal diseases. Diseases of periodontal tissues can develop under the influence of both local causes and the combined influence of local and general factors of exogenous and endogenous origin against the background of altered body reactivity. According
to the modern concept, local determinants of periodontal pathology include dental deposits, plaque microorganisms, poor oral hygiene, traumatic occlusion, and anomalies of the anatomical structure of the oral cavity. Common factors of periodontal diseases include deficiencies in vitamins, particularly C, A, D, and E; disorders of metabolism and redox reactions in the body; somatic diseases; and changes in the immunological reactivity of the body
