Science for the People: Advancing equity and a culture of inclusivity through open science
Description
In 2023, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) joined fellow U.S. Government agencies in celebrating the 2023 Year of Open Science. The Year was designed to advance open and equitable science and promote access to the results of federally funded research. But what exactly do we mean by advancing equity through open science, and who are the key players in achieving this goal? This presentation discussed NLM’s approach to answering these questions, leveraging NLM's position as the world’s largest biomedical library with a long-standing commitment to increasing access to the products and processes of research for the benefit of human health. The presentation highlighted some key achievements over the course of the Year of Open Science, including NLM's collaboration with partners across the federal government around the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy's Year of Open Science Recognition Challenge. The presentation also discussed NLM's more recent work through a Workshop on Advancing a Networked Approach for Equitable Open Science to advance a more open, equitable, and collaborative research ecosystem.
