Concept and Essence of Corruption in Local Self-Government Bodies

This work examines the concept and essence of corruption in local self-government bodies. It is noted that in conditions of decentralized corruption, corruption can still be systemic, but it lacks central coordination. Corruption in local self-government bodies is a serious problem that negatively affects the development of communities and the state as a whole. It undermines citizens' trust in local authorities, reduces the effectiveness of the use of budget funds, and prevents the implementation of important social programs and economic initiatives. The specificity of corruption at the local level has its own unique features, due to the proximity of self-government bodies to the population and the specificity of their functions. In order to overcome this phenomenon, it is necessary to take systematic measures aimed at increasing transparency, improving legislation and activating citizen participation. Only a comprehensive approach will reduce corruption and ensure effective work of local authorities for the benefit of the community.
