Description:

Phenotypic divergence, population change and resilience in Whitehead's Rat (Maxomys whiteheadi) across a tropical forest degradation gradien

Project: This dataset was collected as part of the following SAFE research project: Phenotypic divergence, population change and resilience in Whitehead's Rat (Maxomys whiteheadi) across a tropical forest degradation gradient.

XML metadata: GEMINI compliant metadata for this dataset is available here

Data worksheets: There are 2 data worksheets in this dataset:

  1. Occurrence records of Whiteheads rats (Worksheet Whiteheads_occurrences)

Dimensions: 1395 rows by 19 columns

Description: Complete records of all captures and morphometrics of Whiteheads rats

    Fields:

    • Date: Date trap was collected (Field type: Date)
    • Fragment: Location of trap grid (Field type: Location)
    • Trap_station : Point on the grid at which the trap was located (Field type: ID)
    • Trap_Letter: Whether the trap was located at location A or B (Field type: Replicate)
    • Unique_Trap_ID: Unique identification for this trapping event (Field type: ID)
    • Species: Species identity (Field type: Taxa)
    • Recapture : Whether the iNdividual trapped had beeN previously caught before (Field type: Categorical)
    • Tag_no: PIT tag number injected into that individual;NB excel auto-formatting has altered some of these numbers!! (Field type: ID)
    • Age : Age class of individual (Field type: Categorical)
    • Sex: Sex of individual (Field type: Categorical)
    • Breeding : Notes on breeding condition such as perforated or unperforated vagina or the condition of the males testes ie descended or not (Field type: Comments)
    • Hindfoot: Length of left hindfoot (Field type: Numeric)
    • Ear: Length of left ear (Field type: Numeric)
    • Parasites : Estimate of ectoparasitev load on individual (Field type: Numeric)
    • Weight: Body mass (Field type: Numeric)
    • Injuries : Decsription of any injuries on individual if present (Field type: Comments)
    • Dead: Noting of whether the individual died during the trapping process (Field type: Categorical)
    • Other Notes: Observations made on the individual (Field type: Comments)

  2. Fur colours (Worksheet RGB)

Dimensions: 70 rows by 6 columns

Description: RGB values from fur colour photographs

    Fields:

    • Tag no.: PIT tag number injected into that individual (Field type: ID)
    • Red: An mean pixel value for the red channel in the section analysed on each individual. (Field type: Numeric)
    • Green: An mean pixel value for the green channel in the section analysed on each individual. (Field type: Numeric)
    • Blue: An mean pixel value for the blue channel in the section analysed on each individual. (Field type: Numeric)
    • RGB_Int: An individual value which combines the mean values from the three colour channels (Field type: Numeric)

Date range: 2011-05-22 to 2016-07-25

Latitudinal extent: 4.6837 to 4.7166

Longitudinal extent: 117.5730 to 117.5975

Taxonomic coverage:
All taxon names are validated against the GBIF backbone taxonomy. If a dataset uses a synonym, the accepted usage is shown followed by the dataset usage in brackets. Taxa that cannot be validated, including new species and other unknown taxa, morphospecies, functional groups and taxonomic levels not used in the GBIF backbone are shown in square brackets.
